"First things First” On our minds is Harvey. The storm which is battering and flooding portions of Texas and Louisiana. In any disaster Orphan Grain Train becomes involved in their special way. First of all we are not First Responders, that is usually the police, fire departments, local officials and the Red Cross and at times the National Guard. These people are prepared to save lives and restore the areas to their original condition as much as possible.
After there has been some semblance of safety, Orphan Grain Train will send in whatever is needed to our capacity. We work along with the LCMS Disaster relief to provide whatever is needed to help those affected by the disaster.
In the current situation with Harvey we have sent a truck load of items to Laredo, Texas to help some on the western edge of the storm. Until the rains subside and we are able to assess the damage and ascertain the needs of the people not much can be done other than prayer. One of the main items in need is Hygiene Kits consisting of a bath towel, wash cloth, bar soap, tooth brush, tooth paste , comb or brush and a few band aids. This may be a project which we can do on a large scale. There are other needs which we will let you know about as soon as we hear from our headquarters in Norfolk. We will keep you posted.
We are meeting with the new owners of our warehouse to develop plans to operate the facility. Observing the current layout, it appears as if it will take some time to have the building in condition to open and startup operations. We cautiously contemplate being back in “full swing” sometime this fall. We will keep you informed as to the progress and when we will have a “Grand Opening.” In the meantime please be patient with bringing in clothing. Find a corner in your home in which to store it for the time being.
The Lord continues to challenge us and open up new doors in which to serve Him. Keep tuned in for opportunities for both Harvey and our new warehouse.
To God alone be the glory. Cliff Kraft
